Exploring HVAC Maintenance and Repairs

Hi there, my name is Michelle. I created this site to talk to you about maintaining your HVAC system on your own and with help from contractors. Your HVAC system controls the temperature and air quality in your home. When this system starts to malfunction, you may notice a decrease in your comfort levels. You can perform preventative maintenance to keep this system running year round. From these posts you'll hopefully be able to learn about DIY and professional maintenance tasks that need to be performed regularly. My site will also cover common faults and repairs for HVAC components. Thank you.

Drain Troubles Got You Down? What You Need To Know About Hydro-Jet Cleaning

If you've been noticing foul odors coming up from the drains, or you're suddenly experiencing more clogs, you might need to have your drains cleaned. Literally everything that you flush out of your home – whether it's through the toilets or down the sinks – flow right through your drains. Over time, your drains can get filled with rotting food, hair, and even human waste.

To keep your drains flowing smoothly, and avoid the embarrassing odors, you should include drain cleaning in your list of household maintenance needs. The most effective way to get your drains cleaned is to have a plumber come out and use a hydro-jet. Here's three things you should know about hydro-jet drain cleaning.

What Hydro-Jet Drain Cleaning Is

If you've used a power washer at a local car wash, you've seen a smaller version of what hydro-jet drain cleaning is. The hydro-jet your plumber will use is attached to a rubber hose that can be sent through the drain pipes. It's attached to an air compressor that forces compressed water and air through the hose. The pressurized water then shoots out of the jet head.  Hydro-jet cleaning is used to safely and effectively clean household drains.

How Hydro-Jet Cleaning Works

The hydro-jet works by forcing pressurized water through your drain pipes. As the water jets through the pipes, it cuts through dirt, grease, and sewage at a high rate of speed. Once the debris is knocked loose by the hydro-jet, it's flushed through to the sewer lines or into the septic tank. One of the benefits of hydro-jet cleaning is that it can even cut through tree roots.

This is particularly beneficial if you have large trees growing in your yard. Trees send out tap roots in search of water. Once they find your drain pipes, they gain access through small cracks or joints. The roots continue to grow until they cause your drain pipes to collapse. Hydro-jet cleaning will remove the roots before they can destroy your drains.

Why Hydro-Jet Cleaning is Good for Preventative Maintenance

Dirty drains can lead to clogs and back-ups in your household drains. One of the benefits of hydro-jet drain cleaning is that it can be used as preventative maintenance to keep your drains clean. Unlike snakes and augers that are used to clean drains after you have a problem, hydro-jetting can be used to prevent the problem from occurring in the first place.

If you're having problems with your drains, you should have your drains hydro-cleaned. To prevent future problems, you should have a plumber, like one from Laroc Refrigeration-Metal Division, come out once a year and clean your drains.
